Even now–the sun rises

My mother-in-law’s long-time friend, Mary Tang, is a poet. She lives in Australia and recently contacted me about a custom Froo & Boo order. She sent me a poem that she wrote and wanted some of the words sewn onto my Sunshine & Grey Skies cloud pillow. After playing around with the words and the placement on the cloud, this is what we came up with:
even now--the sun rises
Mary had 2 pillows made: one to keep and one to give to her friend who is in the hospital. The words of the poem are really powerful and have such a strong message of hope. It is my hope that Mary’s friend will be comforted by the words of the poem and the softness of the pillow. This was a collaboration that truly inspired me. Mary has given me permission to share her poem on my blog:

even now

even the moon wanes
even the sun sets
stars ceased to glow
long ago

tides recede and
mountains slide
into seas

blossoms that scent the night
shroud the earth by dawn
and the heat of fierce embrace
fades in the glare of day

yet birds go berserk every morning
bursting their breasts with song
as mourning mists drift away

and the sun rises
again and again
and again

Beautiful, isn’t it? I love the line, “as mourning mists drift away“–I can almost see what that looks like and how that feels. Even though my life is full and I have a lot of happiness to share, I know that I can always use more hope in my life. Hope is what sustains life. At any moment, life can change–it is a fragile balance of enjoying every blessing and knowing that life will always encompass sorrow and suffering.

Here are 2 of the most important blessings in my life:
even now--the sun rises
I can’t even begin to describe the hope I have for these little hands:
even now--the sun rises
Today, we were lucky enough to share the perfect morning with Froo & Boo’s friend. He is a sweetie. So is his mommy. The weather was really amazing: sun shining, blue skies, fresh air, slight chill and as clear as it gets in the SF bay area.
even now--the sun rises
I think the boys may need to take a lesson from Froo on “How To Pose for the Camera”:
even now--the sun rises
We even caught a glimpse of San Francisco:
even now--the sun rises
Thank you, Mary Tang, for your amazing poem and for ordering Froo & Boo products! The meaning you have attached to the cloud pillows with your custom message is just the kind of thing that I have been dreaming about for my little handmade business. The fluffy clouds are in the mail–I hope you will love them as much as I loved making them!

New in the shop

First an announcement:

Secondly, I’ve been working on new HUGS (Handmade Unique Goods for Sale) for my Etsy shop. I have finished with the design process, Tetris-like fabric cutting and sewing like crazy to come up with the Froo & Boo Colour Block Tote Bag. Ta da!

This tote is cute and fully-functional: fit for your life on the go-go. It’s just the right size (12″ wide x 15″ tall x 4.5″ deep) to fit a large stack of library books or a picnic lunch and blanket or to replace your old diaper bag full of diapers and wipes, with room for 10 onesies in case of accidents.

There are 2 pockets in the inside lining. One has a cute floral print, perfect for a cell phone, pen (or lip gloss) and another pocket for snacks, keys or tissues. The other pocket is one large pocket in the same colour as the lining on the opposite side. I love the floral print–it was going to be the bunny ears of the Froo & Boo bunnies until I discovered the Liberty of London print that is currently the design for the Froo & Boo bunny ears.

So which colour do you prefer? Navy blue or shocking pink?

HUGS in My Etsy Store

I am happy to announce that I have HUGS (Handmade Unique Goods for Sale) in my new Etsy store! You may be thinking, “oh great, another stay-at-home-mom making baby blankets”, but that’s not what I envision for Froo & Boo. I want my baby products to be cheery and bold, just like my kiddos. Stylish and fun. Fresh and modern. Providing happy babies with cuddly warmth. High quality fabrics with meticulous handmade craftswomanship.

I have 2 products that I am launching with Froo & Boo: the “Froo & Boo Baby Blanket” and the “Sunshine & Grey Skies Cloud Pillow”. Both are fun products that would be perfect gifts for a baby shower, a first (second, or third…) birthday or your own precious baby. Both products can be personalized with a name, message or date.

The Froo & Boo Baby Blanket has 3 variations:

1. The Froo Baby Blanket – this blanket is for a baby girl who loves to laugh and play with a joyful heart. Little bunny Froo is hiding, but you can see her pink polka dot bow and chic Liberty of London ears popping up, ready to hop at any moment.

2. The Boo Baby Blanket – this blanket features navy blue naughty-cal stripes, perfect for the mischievous boy who just wants you to smile at him. Little bunny Boo is playing hide-and-seek, but you can still see his handsome Liberty of London ears.

3. The Froo & Boo Baby Blanket – this blanket can be made for both a baby girl or boy, but is shown below for a baby boy. Both Froo and Boo are hiding, but can hardly contain their excitement. This blanket can be customized to feature: 2 Froo bunnies, 2 Boo bunnies, or Froo & Boo (as shown).

I am really happy with how the blankets turned out–I think they really represent the look & feel of Froo & Boo. I love that Froo & Boo products can be truly unique. A handmade, personalized gift for a special baby boy or girl–it doesn’t get much better then that!

Inspired by the ever-sweet song “You are my sunshine”, the Sunshine & Grey Skies Cloud pillow is a visual interpretation that would be perfect in any nursery or child’s room. It is made with super-soft flannel and filled with ultra plush fiber. The Sunshine & Grey Skies Cloud Pillow comes in 3 variations: shocking pink, navy blue or white trim. They coordinate well with the Froo, Boo and Froo & Boo Baby Blankets.

The Sunshine & Grey Skies Cloud Pillow can also be personalized with a custom name, message or date. This one shows the date my niece was born, just a couple of days ago! Congrats big sis on your new baby girl–I can’t wait to meet her!

The Sunshine & Grey Skies Cloud Pillow also comes with wrapping paper, since it is an awkward shape for wrapping. The cloud envelope is machine sewn together and can be embellished with bows, pompoms, stickers, stamps, drawings–however you choose to decorate it. A small gift tag is also enclosed.

So that is the PIPPA I was working on–I haven’t slept much lately, but I am so happy to be designing my own line of baby products! I have more products that I would like to start making, but I am testing the market with these 2 products first. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

PIPPA

Once upon a time, I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from a Canadian university. I wore suits. I read the Globe & Mail. I applied for jobs. I went to Switzerland and worked as a web design intern. I returned to Vancouver in 2001, in the midst of a recession. I went back to the same university to get an Education degree. I taught Business Education at the high school level for half a decade. I did some freelance graphic design. My work history in a nutshell.

What is PIPPA? Business people love acronyms. PIPPA for me stands for Projects In Progress – Product Assembly. At this stage in my work life, I am working as a full-time mommy. I absolutely love it, but there is a part of me that needs to accomplish things and set goals for my own life. Moving to the San Francisco Bay area has given me the opportunity to start my own business. It’s something that I’ve been wanting to do for awhile, but I’ve just been too busy working. So I’ve developed a business plan (in my head), designed some products and now I have PIPPA. Hmmm, it’s definitely not going to catch on.

I’ve created a Facebook page to share updates. I also signed up for twitter, but I feel like such a twit because I don’t know how to tweet. This is the cover photo for my Facebook page, which acts as a sneak peek at my PIPPA.

So while I have PIPPA, I am going to blog about things that I have made in the past. I will announce my grand opening as soon as I have HUGS (Handmade Unique Goods for Sale). Oh dear, I need to stop with the acronyms.

As for pseudonyms, I came up with Froo & Boo one day when Froo came home from daycare singing a song about a little bunny Foo Foo. It was so funny, something about bopping mice on the head. Froo sounded more chic and Frenchie, so I stuck with Froo. As for Boo, well, it just fits.
